Two killed in accident
Two people were killed on the morning of May 14 when four vehicles were involved in an accident on the N12 freeway near the Elands interchange.
One person was left critically injured during the accident and was rushed to the Thelle Mogoerane Hospital in Vosloorus by Ekurhuleni Emergency Ambulance Service.
According to City of Ekurhuleni?s Emergency Rescue Services spokesperson William Ntladi, the City of Ekurhuleni?s rescue team and paramedics responded swiftly to the scene for intervention.
On arrival, they found two light delivery vehicles and two trucks involved in the crash. Wreckage from the accident was scattered across the freeway, bringing traffic to a halt before it was diverted onto the N3 south-bound freeway.

Debris and fuel spillage covered the bigger part of the road surface. Two of the three adult male casualties were found lying motionless on the tarmac while the third was found under one of the bakkies.
The third patient was still trapped inside one of the bakkies, which had flipped on its side. Pre-hospital medical treatment was rendered before the two were declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
The entrapped victim was extricated from the wreck and transported to the Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital after sustaining head and upper body injuries.
Both trucks’ crews suffered no visible injuries. All four lanes of the freeway were temporarily closed to traffic for the duration of the operation.

Rescue teams and other stakeholders collectively rehabilitated the road surface before allowing traffic flow. Reports from witnesses on the scene alleged that the two deceased patients were towing each other in the middle of the road prior to the crash.
The scene was handed over to CoE traffic officers for in-depth investigations.
