Germiston SAPS member tests positive for Covid-19

Brig Vishnu Naidoo, national police spokesperson, confirmed that a Germiston SAPS member has tested positive for Covid-19.

“The Germiston SAPS building and living quarters have been evacuated after a member at the station tested positive for Covid-19.”

These were the words of national police spokesperson Brig Vishnu Naidoo on Friday morning after the GCN contacted him for comment on reports that the Germiston Police Station had been closed to the public on Thursday.

“The premises are being decontaminated, while members who have come into contact with the positive member are being screened and tested,” Naidoo said.

“All SAPS members were expected to return to work at the station on Friday.”

Naidoo further explained the client service centre has been moved to the station’s hall, while the main building is being decontaminated.

“This has been done as a contingency plan to ensure that service delivery continues,” he said.

“The holding cells were cleared and the prisoners detained at a neighbouring station.

“Residents of the station’s living quarters were able to return to their rooms after 12 hours of decontamination, which was started on May 28.”
