Primrose blood donors are heroes who don’t wear capes

Heroes do not wear capes, and the Primrose community members showed how true this is as they donated their blood on September 12.

Heroes do not wear capes, and the Primrose community members showed how true this is as they donated their blood on September 12. The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) pitched their marquee next to the Eastern Suburbs Medicine Supply in Primrose and young and old donors came and committed themselves to the act of kindness.
Mercia Sobikwa, the clinic supervisor on the day, said donors started pouring in at around 10am.
Sobikwa made sure all donors were screened and their temperatures were checked according to regulations.
Narina Fourie said she was donating blood for the 19th time on Saturday.

“My husband encouraged me to donate and I have never stopped. I believe a lot of people need blood.”
Another donor, Mpho Malatswane, shared the same sentiments as Narina.
A family effort by the Andersen family could not go unnoticed. Wilna and Bjorn Andersen cheerfully interacted with the clinic officials in the process.
Wilna said she was donating her blood to help other people.
“Even as the seasons change, the demand for blood and blood products remains,” said donor relations practitioner of SANBS Kamantha Pillay.
