Roseacres Hospital celebrates doctors and secretaries on Secretary’s Day

Life Roseacres Hospital took time out on September 2 to celebrate its doctors and hospital secretaries, recognising the vital role they play in keeping medical practices running smoothly.
Secretary’s Day, also known as Administrative Professionals’ Day, is observed in South Africa on the first Wednesday of September as an opportunity to recognise administrative staff, receptionists, personal assistants and secretaries for their contribution to the workplace.
For the doctors at the hospital, the occasion was an opportunity to thank the women who often work behind the scenes yet remain an essential part of the healthcare team.

Speaking on behalf of the doctors, specialist gynaecologist Dr Relebogile Sekele expressed her appreciation to the secretaries for their daily work. She described them as the ‘gatekeepers’ who help ensure that doctors’ practices function effectively and that the many moving parts remain organised.
“You keep the ship moving” was the sentiment behind the appreciation, highlighting how secretaries often become the link between doctors, patients, colleagues, and the administration, but the celebration was about more than simply thanking the secretaries for their hard work.
Dr Sekele also encouraged the predominantly female group to remember themselves as they care for others and support the professionals around them. She reminded them that taking time to pause, reflect and invest in themselves is equally important.

The morning provided an opportunity for the secretaries to step away from their demanding routines, reflect on what they give to others and consider what they can also pour back into themselves.
The message was simple: while they are busy making sure everyone else is taken care of, they should not forget to take care of themselves.
The celebration served as a reminder that behind every efficient medical practice is a team of people whose contribution may not always be visible, but whose work makes a significant difference to both doctors and patients.
For the secretaries at Roseacres, Secretary’s Day was therefore not only about receiving appreciation, but also about being reminded of their own value.
