SANDF visits Vosloorus Old Age Home
The pensioners gave the SANDF a resounding welcome with jubilant songs and dances as a sign of gratitude.
There was excitement at the Vosloorus Old Age Home when the head of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Gen Solly Choke, and his colleagues paid the facility a visit with food parcels and a message of condolence to the families and friends of 12 pensioners who died of Covid-19.
The pensioners gave the SANDF a resounding welcome with jubilant songs and dances as a sign of gratitude.
Choke then led a moment of silence as a mark of respect. A memorial candle was lit and the rest of the pensioners joined their army guests in prayer.
According to the Vosloorus Old Age Home’s manager, Sechaba Mathenjwa, three of the pensioners who died were members of the old age home’s choral group, but not residents of the old age home.
Three of choral members were:
• Paulina Kunupi
• Messy Mfeka
• Lizzy Pebane
Residents of the old age home were:
• Isaac Langa
• Fulane Maphitha
• James Sekese
• Anna Ramothibe
• Elizabeth Dioka
• Betty Mphuthi
• Josephina Mkhonza
• Rahab Lietsitso
• Lettie Khumalo
• Abel Rhomane
• Catherine Masinta
• Jacobeth Mokoena
A sumptuous lunch, more singing and merrymaking followed the prayers.
“We celebrate life and thank God for protecting us from the deadly pandemic,” said one of the pensioners.
