Four arrested for protest action

Members of the EMPD First Response Unit arrested four members of the community who were part of protest action in Dindela Section, Vosloorus, on October 4.

The suspects have been accused of contravening the NRTA 93/1996 Act (hindering or obstructing a public road). The team was responding to protest action staged at the intersection of Khoza Street and Roets Drive.

A group of people, who were stoning approaching police vehicles, barricading the roadway using rubble, rocks and burning tyres, were cornered and as they ran in different directions for of them were apprehended.

The foursome, facing charges under public violence at the Vosloorus Police Station, appeared in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court for a formal remand while further investigations continue.
