Ward 36 Clr Wendy Morgan shared how 2020 was for her and the community and her plans for 2021.
The beginning of the year is a time for reflection and planning for many people. Ward 36 Clr Wendy Morgan shared how she experienced 2020 and her plans for 2021.
Morgan said 2020 was a tough year. She also thanked residents for their continued support and for standing together during the lockdown by donating groceries and other needs, to make up food parcels.
“Close to 3 000 members of the community got assistance during these tough times. Many residents had a hard year and it has been an emotionally draining year, but there have still been those willing to assist.
“Thank you to the angels in our community who did fund-raising, thanks to donations received, to enable food parcels to be made up and given to the elderly and disabled in our community.”
“My prayer for 2021 is that we are all safe and our lives can continue in the new normal. I hope learners may have an uninterrupted year of education this year,” said Morgan.

She added her biggest challenge of 2020 was the constant power outages throughout Germiston and water outages in Dawnview and Sunnyridge.
Other challenges included the parks department not operating since lockdown started in March. “However, I would like to thank the area managers from both Primrose and Germiston depots for trying their utmost to assist whenever requested with little resources.”
Morgan added that illegal buildings continue to be a big challenge. “I have nothing against development, but they should build according to regulations so the infrastructure is not affected.” She said her immediate focus in 2021 was to resolve the water supply problems in Dawnview.
“There is a generator that is not working when there are power outages and then residents do not have water.”
“I also aim for the Simmer and Jack landfill to function according to Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) standards and to continue to get electricity upgrades to areas which still need them,” she said.
