A diffrent type of first day of school

The new norm had presented new ways of doing things.

This year’s first day of school was different from other years. There were no walking children into school grounds, no hugging a new friend or sharing anything.

The new norm had presented new ways of doing things. Parents had to understand and adhere to the rules. “I’m sad I can’t walk my son all the way to his class. All I can do is stand on the other side of the fence and watch him walk into school,” said a parent at Sunnyridge Primary School.

It was no different at MEL International Schools as parents were not allowed to walk into the school. “For the safety of the children, parents are not allowed to come in. We need to adhere to the Covid-19 regulations and ensure children’s safety,” said the founder of the school Mariam Kawoma.

She said they are happy learners are back and looking forward to making 2021 a success.

“Last year was a crazy year. Children lost a lot of learning time. We have learnt a lot as a school, such as looking at different ways to teach,” said Kawoma.
