Ekurhuleni West district police join forces to combat crime

Ekurhuleni West District joined forces with other stakeholders to combat crime and secure the residents in their policing precinct. The stations that were involved in the operation were Alberton, Bedfordview, Brackendowns, Eden Park, Elsburg, Germiston, Primrose, Katlehong North, Katlehong South, Tokoza, Vosloorus and Zonkizizwe.

“We arrested 152 suspects during the executed duties, such as tracing of suspects, stop-and-searches and vehicle control points (VCP). Ekurhuleni West police members, EMPD, CPF members, Youth Desk members and security officers made several successes during different cluster operations,” said Ekurhuleni West Cluster corporate communications officer Dapheny Phooko.

The VCP stop-and-search operation yielded arrests for shoplifting, rape, assault common (related to domestic violence), malicious property damage, possession of nyaope, attempted murder, dealing in drugs, traffic fines, drunken driving, possession of suspected stolen property, theft general, contravention of Disaster Management Act and business robbery.

“Among the arrested were two suspects nabbed on Jules Street in Malvern after a robbery at Wychwood supermarket in Primrose. It’s was alleged the suspect took two kettles and assaulted the victim with a bottle before they fled the scene on foot.

“Police swiftly responded and chased the suspect and arrested them,” said Phooko.
