By-laws workshop for local businesses

The Ekurhuleni Nafcoc will host a six-month by-laws workshop to help local businesses comply.

The Ekurhuleni National African Federated Chamber of Commerce (Nafcoc) and the City of Ekurhuleni, along with other stakeholders, invite business people to take part in a by-laws workshop under the theme ‘Rise in Faith’.

The workshop commences from March 16 to August 3, targeting recyclers, hawkers, hair salons, bakeries and manufacturers on a small scale.

Chairperson of Ekurhuleni Nafcoc George Ratswana explained that the purpose of the workshop is to bring the understanding of the by-laws and create an enabling environment for the business community of Kathorus to know the rules that govern their operations.

He said another important factor is to have a united business approach.

South Africa’s townships have always been a hive for entrepreneurial activities; however, the oversaturation of certain sectors have affected the chance of their success, he added.

“We are always looking for innovative ways to run events or seminars and we came across this impressive list of ideas for small businesses.

“SMMEs play a crucial role in the economy of South Africa,” said Ratswana.

Objectives of this workshop

• To create awareness and educate SMMEs about EMM by-laws.
• To showcase township businesses successfully.
• To promote and highlight the role that SMMEs play in the economic development of South Africa.
• To bring all the stakeholders such as governments, development intuitions, investors, academics, and private sectors together to help SMMEs by promoting township business research and development.

The involved parties include:

The City of Ekurhuleni, EMPD and Department of City Planning, Kathorus Micro Traders Association, Kathorus Recyclers Association, Thuthukani COOP, liquor traders, crèches and other private sectors.

The first session will be on March 16. The venue will be communicated, and participants are advised to bring their chairs.
