High-density operation results in arrests

Over 80 suspects were arrested over the weekend during a high-density operation in Ekurhuleni.

Police arrested 11 suspects for various crimes, including possession of and dealing in drugs, driving under the influence of alcohol and selling liquor without a licence, during a high-density operation in Eden Park.

The operation, carried out by the SAPS and EMPD on March 6 and 7 and led by Brig Albertina Vesi, entailed roadblocks and stop-and-searches.

Furthermore, 13 fines were issued to road traffic offenders.

According to the communications officer in the Ekurhuleni district, Sgt Rufus Tema, in a separate incident, about 71 suspects were taken into police custody in Zonkiziwe, Vosloorus, Eden Park, Thokoza and Katlehong North and South SAPS.

The suspects were arrested for various crimes, including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, house break-in, rape, theft, shoplifting, tampering with municipality infrastructure, malicious damage to property, reckless and negligence driving.

The suspects are expected to appear in various courts in the district soon.
