One arrested, another on the run as highjacking fails
One suspect was arrested while attempting to hijack a vehicle.
Police arrested a middle-aged man for attempted hijacking along Pheasant Street, Falcon Ridge, Vereeniging, on March 30.
According to a communications officer in the Sedibeng district Capt Thivhulawi Tshilate, a 42-year-old woman was driving into her premises when the incident occurred.
“She saw an unknown man assaulting her 14-year-old child with a firearm while opening the gate, while another unknown man went to the driver’s side.
“The victim climbed out of the vehicle and screamed for help. Her husband came running out of the house and grabbed the suspect, who was already in the driver’s seat.
“The suspects ran away, but a private security company that was nearby noticed the incident, gave chase and arrested one of the suspects,” said Tshilate.
The Sedibeng acting district commissioner, Brig Pule Mokoena, appreciated the efforts to curb crime and the good partnership with the private security.
The arrested suspect will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court soon.
