Hawks nab man in possession of drugs worth R600k

The Germiston Unit received intelligence regarding suspicious drug-related activities at a residential premises in Sandton.

A 44-year-old man appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on March 31, facing charges of possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R600 000.

This follows an investigations by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit based in Germiston. The Germiston unit received intelligence regarding suspicious drug-related activities at a residential premises in Sandton.

“The investigation team kept surveillance on the positively identified address and pounced on the suspect allegedly packing drugs,” Capt Ndivhuwo Mulamu said.

A search warrant was produced and police found 2.4kg of suspected ephedrine and 1.3kg of crystal meth.

Police also seized R100 000 in cash, which was concealed in travelling luggage.
