Long weekend speedsters arrested in different parts of Germiston

Male drivers were arrested by EMPD officers for failing to adhere to stipulated speed limit signs on April 2 and 4, in different parts of Germiston.

EMPD officers arrested seven motorists on April 2 and 4 for failing to adhere to speed limits in different parts of Germiston. Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, said a man was taken to Elsburg Police Station on April 2.

“Officers monitoring the N17 freeway between Guthrie and Heidelberg bridges arrested the 30-year old male for driving a VW Polo hatchback at 167 km/h on a 120 km/h zone. “In Dinwiddie, on the N3 freeway direction south at Grey Avenue on-ramp zoned at 120km/h, officers apprehended a man for clocking 167 km/h.
“On April 4, EMPD High-Speed Unit officers were deployed to the N3 freeway direction south at the Rand Airport off-ramp, which is zoned 120km/h. Five motorists were nabbed for speeding.”

Mokheseng said a man, driving a BMW X1 station wagon, was stopped and handcuffed for registering 170 km/h.

“Four men were stopped and detained for doing speeds between 166 and 176 km/h.”

They were taken to the Germiston Police Station.

Those arrested face charges of reckless and negligent driving.
