Enkululekweni ANC branch introduces Ward 51 councillor nominees
The Enkululekweni ANC branch executives called a meeting to introduce candidates that were nominated for the position of Ward 51 councillor at Mogobeng Primary School in Katlehong on August 12.
The executive included voting officer Michael Gabashe, chairperson Mzwakhe Faleni, secretary Muzi Ngcobo and zonal convener Fraizer Mnguni.
The community members, in turn, wanted to nominate their candidate, apart from the four candidates brought by the ANC, citing that guidelines allow for the community to nominate anyone within the community.
The four ANC nominees are Hloni Motloung, Mokgitla Motsieloa, Keneilwe Maphuru and Lumka Poki.
The process of introductions took several minutes as the executive and the community pulled in different directions before they were allowed to choose two additional candidates. The community nominated Moses Gama and Michael Mceleli.

Mceleli, however, asked to have his name removed, saying it was a surprise to hear his name called.
“I appreciate that the community recognises that I can one day lead as councillor, but comrades, I have a lot on my plate. I would like to humble myself, I will not be able to take up this position,” said Mceleli.
Mapuru said she would like to tackle unemployment in the ward.

She said if she is elected as councillor, she will be closer to the ground, which will make it easier to help the community.
Poki said she realised that there is a communication barrier between the community and the government, information does not reach people.
“Remember, as a community, we are not all good academically, some people are good with skills. Some people are not studying because it is not easy for them. There are programmes meant for slow learners but upon completion what happens to them?” she asked.

“I would like to build a communication bridge that benefits the community. We need a youth centre in our community.”
Motloung said he wants the ward to be a safe zone for all people, including women and children.
“Another thing is cleanness. I researched why Rwanda is the cleanest county in Africa. I found that they have two days in a month whereby everything stops for people to go out and clean.

“If we can implement that once a month and just spend three hours cleaning, our branch will be the cleanest,” said Motloung.
Motsieloa said he wishes to archive unity in Ward 51 because there is division.
He said when a councillor has to deliver services there is a challenge because people are divided.
Gama said he wants to restore the dignity of the ANC because they are known as corrupt.

“We must bring back our morals so that people understand we are not all the same. We need to bring back trust so we can work together and ensure people become self-reliant,” said Gama.
“We should be able to partner with local businesses because together we are strong and will be able to achieve a lot. Through partnership, we will be able to create jobs for the community,” he said.
