Lambton residents demand service delivery

“We demand accountability and action on service delivery.”

The LamDel Residents Association, with Ward 39 and 35 residents, said they are fed up with service delivery issues that are not addressed.
These residents have decided to take a stand and demand action.

“We demand accountability and initiated a petition addressed to the mayor of Ekurhuleni, premier of Gauteng and parliamentary representative of Cogta, demanding an urgent address to the collapse of service delivery in our area,” said Jakkie Janse van Vuuren, chairperson of LamDel Association.

The residents are demanding the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) address service delivery in Lambton, Parkhill Gardens, Delvile, Webber, Denlee and Germiston Lake.

“As the active citizens of LamDel and Ekurhuleni, we are united. We are tired of begging and asking. We are tired of waiting for action and hearing excuses from the council and our political representatives and their failure to exercise oversight in respect of municipal affairs, service delivery and to represent this community’s needs and best interests,” said Janse van Vuuren.

The group urged residents to support the petition.

CoE stated it is aware of residents’ frustrations.

“We have noted the dissatisfaction of our Germiston residents. Occasionally, service lapses occur, such as backlog in refuse collection when the rate of vehicle breakdown is higher than planned for and electricity interruptions that are mainly occasioned by electricity theft or cable theft,” said CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

“Some of the service interruptions can best be addressed through the community working with the CoE, for example, eradicating crime which causes damage to electricity infrastructure.

“Consequently, electricity interruption, littering and sewer blockages are caused by persons who are members of the community. It is, therefore, a societal responsibility as much as it is the responsibility of the city to address these issues.

“Residents are urged to report service delivery complaints by phoning the call centre (0860 543 000) or using the My CoE App.”
