Elsburg SAPS police task team members opened a case of armed robbery after a victim alleged he received a request for transportation from a man in Rondebult.
Elsburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Daphney Phooko said the driver picked up the man on August 17.
The man then requested the driver to also pick up friends from two separate locations, the third being on Amanda Street.
“After the third pick-up, the driver was held at gunpoint and they took his cellphone, necklace and cash.
“During preliminary investigations, the victim informed police of the one man’s address and a man, aged 35, was found at the residential address and arrested.
“Upon furthering investigation, the second suspect, aged 24, was arrested the following day. Both appeared in Germiston Magistrate’s Court to face charges of armed robbery.
“Transporters and drivers are urged to be careful when they make pick-ups and drop-offs. Verify the personal details of your customers before you transport any person,” said Phooko.
