The Class of 2021 consisted of 39 candidates of which 37 achieved a bachelor’s degree pass, which will enable them to enrol at university for tertiary studies.

The remaining two learners did well enough to allow them to pursue their studies at a college or technikon.

Top honours were shared by five learners who each achieved four distinctions.

Chiara Hartnick, Rearabilwe Maputla, Tshinyongolo Malaba, Ntando Ngobese and Luyanda Ngubeni showed their mettle and netted a total of 20 distinctions between them.

They were followed by Melki Bacamwabo, Sibusiso Mokoena and Keamogetswe Mokone who each managed to garner three distinctions.

Six candidates achieved two distinctions each and a further 11 gained a single A symbol.

In total, the Class of 2021 recorded 52 distinctions, which averages at 1.5 distinctions per candidate, and the distinction rate stands at 64%.

A further 48% of all subject results achieved were either an A or a B symbol (above 70%).

A further accolade must go to two learners who achieved in the top 1% of all candidates nationally for a subject.

Ntando achieved this distinction in business studies with a mark of 96%. She is joined by Rearabilwe, who gained the same honour in mathematical literacy, earning 95%.

Commenting on the results, head of school Dennis Maritz congratulated the senior school principal, Joanne Crosby, and her team on their hard work and dedication to the learners in their care.

“These sterling results are not achieved overnight and are a reflection of the persistence of teachers, the diligence of learners and the constant support of parents,” he said.

“The school has consistently sought to appoint excellent teachers and to entrench a culture of continuous improvement. These measures are paying off and we expect to see even better outcomes in the years ahead.”

Maritz thanked not only parents for their support, but extended his gratitude to the board of governors and the Dominican sisters for their unswerving encouragement and continued interest in St Catherine’s.
