CoE removes illegal connections in Germiston

During the operation 300 illegal connections were removed.

City of Ekurhuleni’s MMC for Community Safety Letlhogonolo Moseki led a by-law enforcement blitz in Germiston CBD to remove illegal electricity connections on February 10.

Three hundred illegal connections were removed, nine illegally occupied buildings were disconnected and one business was issued with an R22 239 reconnection fine.

Moseki urged residents to report illegal connections as these destroy the infrastructure and overload the power grid.

“This affects the infrastructure and hampers revenue collection of the city. It then makes it impossible for us to provide services to residents as it is obligated by the constitution. We call upon everyone to report these criminal acts,” said Moseki.
