The operation was supported by station commander Col Linah Ntombizini Thethe, Vispol Commander Lt-Col Vusi George Mhlophe and Vispol administration members.

The purpose of the operation was to attend to hotspot areas that have indicated an increase in crime.

“The focus was on the vehicle control point, stop-and-search operations and non-compliance of second-hand goods and liquor outlets,” said Elsburg police spokesperson Sgt Daphney Phooko.

“The hotspots were Osborn Road for hijackings where vehicles were stopped and searched. Fines to the value of R4 300 were issued for offenses of the Road Traffic Act.”

The second part of the operation focused on taverns.

“One tavern was found not complying with the Liquor Act, J534, and was issued a fine. Police also visited and unlicensed tavern and confiscated liquor and issued a fine.”
