R2-m grant in aid for SPCA

The fund located will be in the form of grants in aid which will be directed towards the welfare of animals across the nine SPCA branches in the Ekurhuleni.

The City of Ekurhuleni allocated R2-million towards the prevention of cruelty to animals to the SPCA for 2021/22 adjusted budget financial.

The budget was recently approved by the council.

The fund located will be in the form of grants in aid that will be directed towards the welfare of animals across the nine SPCA branches in Ekurhuleni.

The critical needs that will be addressed by the budget include the expansion of the roll-out of the immunisation programme of dogs, protection of stray dogs, medication, nutrition and the massive roll-out of the educational campaigns on animal cruelty.

“There is a great number of animal lovers in the community of Ekurhuleni. As such, it remains the responsibility of the local government to work with institutions such as the SPCA and members of the community to guarantee the safety and health of animals by providing all the support needed including financial support,” said MMC for Corporate, Legal and Shared Services Ruhan Robinson.

The MMC also encouraged members of the community to adopt animals from the SPCA to provide them with a stable home.

He also condemned the criminal acts of animal cruelty, particularly the dog fight challenges.
