Marlands community steps up to help school secure water tank

The Marlands community raised funds for a 10 000-litre Jojo water tank to benefit Ithembelihle LSEN School.

Ward 92 Clr Kade Guerreiro handed over a 10 000-litre Jojo water tank to Ithembelihle LSEN School in Primrose recently.

The Marlands community, in response to Guerreiro’s request, raised funds to buy the tank.

Guerreiro said the children at the school are in nappies, and during the previous Rand Water four-day water outage, the school desperately needed water.

“I visited the school and saw the need to have a water tank. They have 300 children, of which 200 are boarders.

Learners constantly need fresh nappies. The teachers have the responsibility to look after the learners,” said Guerreiro.

“The hygiene was a concern. The new tank has a filtration system, and it can last the school for a day or two. We need more tanks.

“We are grateful to the community of Marlands for helping us meet the needs of the school. It is amazing to see what a community can do if they stand together.

“Four days without water is ridiculous for a school like this one.”

Leonar Ngozi, the school principal, said: “Our learners’ health statuses are always our priority.”

She commended Guerreiro and the community of Marlands for the donation.
