Rami uses her story to help abused women
Road to Self-Discovery movement set to assist victims of domestic abuse.
Rami Mokau from Germiston said she had to learn to love herself and accept that she was good enough after suffering at the hands of her fiancé’s verbal and emotional abuse.

Her strength inspired her to start her movement, Road to Self-Discovery.
“I want everyone, women and men, to know that being rejected is not the end of the world. It doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with them. They may be not enough or worthy to the person rejecting them, but they are enough and worthy to the person they will meet one day and to themselves.”
Rami hopes her story inspires others to find the strength to leave toxic relationships.
“I’m lucky that I’ve survived,” said Rami.
Her turning point was when she looked at the relationship and questioned what was good about it and what was she gaining.
“The answer was nothing. Instead, I have been giving more and losing myself. When that happened, I realised I needed to stop it,” said Rami.
She said that with the Road to Self-Discovery movement, she wants to assist those in need of support in difficult times, especially caused by a partner.

“I found myself homeless and alone. I ended up in a shelter for abused women and children. I could find my strength and rebuild my life,” said Rami.
She said she was thankful for the shelter because at the time she needed support and the shelter offered her that.
On April 30, she will launch the movement in Edenvale.
“I would like to invite everyone who needs support or would like to offer support to the launch. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness but strength,” said Rami.
“We can’t keep on turning a blind eye to the need. We need to take action and offer help,” said Rami.
