Katlehong abuser evades court, victim and children flee home in fear

She said the police know him and she kept telling them where to find him.

Katlehong mother of three Fiona Guss (44) cries for help while the police are hunting for her abusive ex-partner.

Guss has been living in fear for her life and three children, two daughters who are aged 18 and an 11-year-old boy.

According to Guss, her former partner is terrorising her family. She has reported three separate cases against her ex-lover, who has been abusing her and eventually took over her business.

She said she had to flee to a shelter with her children after her ex assaulted her with bricks in front of the community, who could not help as they said they feared he would shoot them.

“I have a protection order against him and the court has issued a warrant of arrest against him; however, the police are not arresting him,” she explained.

“On Tuesday night, I called the police asking for help as the perpetrator was at my house, shouting my name and scaring my daughters, who were alone at home. The police did not come.

“I even contacted Kasi FM, and they played my message of help, pleading with the community to help the police arrest him. He is a known criminal, and the community is afraid of him,” said Guss.

She said this has disturbed her children’s education and their well-being.

“My two daughters are doing matric and they have not written term one exams. The perpetrator has taken over my business. I reported all this to Col Mokgope, but he refuses to help me.”

Her life has been turned upside down. She owned a business called TagChillspot at 77 Mafatsane Street, Moleleki Section, Katlehong, where she sold fast food and traditional food.

Guss was an active person in the community who was passionate and positive about life. She had a vegetable garden that she started at the beginning of Covid-19.

The garden provided some of the food she sold. She is also an aerobics instructor.

“I have a class from Monday to Thursday between 07:00 and 08:00. I train senior citizens and the youth.”

Guss was starting evening classes when all the issues started.

“I had also just gotten the Seriti funding for my business before running away. I am just stuck, not knowing what to do,” said Guss.

Katlehong South SAPS media liaison officer Capt Mega Ndobe said the police are aware of the case and it is under investigation.

The EMPD Specialised Task Team members arrested Senzo Luton Sithole for the possession of an alleged unlicensed firearm with ammunition in November 2020.

“The suspect is on the run. He has a warrant of arrest. He had been arrested and released. Since then, he failed to appear in court.”

Ndobe said police are working on information about the suspect, but the challenge is that police do not know him.

“No one is prepared to point out the suspect. Police once had an operation looking for him, but everyone refused to point out where he is located.

“He is hiding from everyone,” said Ndobe.

However, Guss criticised the police, citing people see the perpetrator in Moleleki and at Kwa Juice every weekend.
She said the police know him, and she kept telling them where to find him.

“Even last Tuesday (March 29) he was at my place, but they never came there,” she concluded.

Details about the suspect

The suspect’s name is Senzo Luton Sithole (45) from Ramokonopi West, Katlehong. He is on the run and wanted by the SAPS.

Police are looking for a man who is accused of alleged assault and abuse.
