The sewage from a blocked drain has been flowing for nearly a month.

Business owner Dennis Nance-Kivell said he has been affected health-wise and business-wise.

The sewage flows into his business premises and has affected the productivity of his employees.

“I’m at the point where I’m thinking of moving my offices. My employees are complaining and are worried about their health. This is no way for anyone to live,” said Nance-Kivell.

He said they could not even open windows because of the smell.

“We have been patient and trying to continue waiting for the matter to be solved, but it’s been a month. Some employees have opted to work from home because the environment is not healthy and is affecting them,” said Nance-Kivell.

He said residents were also complaining because the smell is making their lives unpleasant.

He said they have made numerous calls to the city and were given a reference number, but the problem never gets resolved.

“We have spoken to the councillor to try and assist us and he did, but the problem is the right tools are never used. A truck will come to spend two hours only to say they cannot access the veld and leave without the problem being resolved. There is never a clear answer to why the problem has not been solved. We don’t even understand what the truck does when it comes here because we are still sitting with the problem,” said Nance-Kivell.

GCN sent an inquiry to the city on April 6, requesting comment by April 7 at 12:00. By the time of going to print, no comment had been received.
