City of Ekurhuleni DEMS battled the fire since Sunday evening. The raging fire engulfed the facility.
Zweli Dlamini, City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson, said the facility will be temporarily closed to the public and all patrons are advised to utilise nearby alternative mini dumpsites and landfill sites such as the Weltevreden landfill site in Brakpan, Platkop near Heidelberg and Rietfontein landfill site in Kwa-Thema until further notice.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation,” said Dlamini.
By May 17 the emergency services were tending to the scene.
