Seven suspects to appear in court for various crimes
Seven suspects are due to appear in Palm Ridge Magistrate Court soon in relation to various offences committed in the Zonkizizwe area.
Police arrested seven suspects for various crimes at Zonkizizwe on May 18.
According to Zonkizizwe SAPS media liaison officer Srgt Rufus Tema, the suspects were arrested and charged with crimes such as sexual assault, rape, murder, armed robbery, business burglary, and tampering with essential infrastructure and possession of suspected stolen property.
Tema said in the case of possession of the suspected stolen property, police arrested two suspects after they were handed over by members of a security company.
“According to the members, they were busy patrolling railway line in Zone Four when they noticed one of the suspects coming out of Transnet substation, while the other was found inside with a dismounted transformer,” said Sgt Tema in a statement.
The station commander of Zonkizizwe SAPS Lit-Col Risenga Albert Chauke, appreciated the arrest of the suspects and strongly condemned the tampering with the infrastructure.
“We applaud all the members involved in the arrest of these suspects. We also appeal to the community to be our ears and eyes at all essential infrastructures tampering of which results in severe economic implications,” said Chauke.
The suspects will also face charges of business burglary and tampering with essential infrastructure, they are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate Court soon.
