Bin bag safety: take care with what you throw out

The waste you throw away it can pose threats and danger to you and your loved one. Charnel Hattingh urges individuals to take care of what they throw in the waste bins.

Fidelity ADT advises citizens to think carefully about the objects they discard and how they do it.

Diggers of trash bags are not always as innocent as they seem. Before plotting a break-in, would-be robbers may sift through trash to learn more about homes.

Fidelity ADT’s head of marketing and communications, Charnel Hattingh, said that intruders have been reported within a day of bin bags being left outside for collection, according to information they have received.

“Make a conscious effort not to leave empty boxes or packaging on your pavement or verge alongside rubbish bins. This is a dead giveaway of newly bought items such as home theatre systems, TVs, computers, and more. Avoid tempting thieves and rather flatten such boxes and conceal them or recycle them,” said Hattingh.

Additional information collected suggests that suspects search for medication boxes and containers, particularly those for sleeping medications.

Residents are advised to take out labels and other information from medicine containers before throwing them away.

Be careful, therefore, what you throw away because you can be giving crooks a shopping list.
