EMPD arrests four suspects, one dies on the scene in Katlehong

Germiston Flying Squad and the EMPD arrested four men after chasing after them for an allegedly stolen vehicle.

Germiston Flying Squad and EMPD members apprehended three men on October 23 on suspicion of having a stolen car in Tsietsi, which is near the Eden Park neighbourhood policing area.

The police responded to a report of a business robbery in Tsietsi, where they discovered that the six suspects had driven off in a maroon vehicle with no licence plates.

Following their lead, officers found the car travelling along Sontonga Street in Katlehong.

Germiston Flying Squad communications officer Sergeant Ntombikayise Ngcobo said as the chase began, the suspects attempted to flee from the police and crashed into the wall of a business in Katlehong.

“Police came closer to the vehicle and found out that one of the suspects was allegedly shot by the business owner and died on the scene. After further police investigation the business owner was also arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm,” said Ngcobo.

Vehicle that was chased by the officers.

According to police reports, the business owner’s gun was reported stolen earlier this year.

The suspects, who have been detained for business robbery, murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm, range in age from 22 to 35.

The business owner was arrested for having an illegal firearm.

The arrested group will shortly appear in the magistrate’s court as the investigation progresses.

The unit commander of the Germiston Flying Squad, Lieutenant Colonel Kgole, thanked the officers and issued a clear warning to criminals that the police will have a zero-tolerance policy in the fight against crime and safeguard the protection of the South African people.
