Primrose boxer crowned champ at Emperors

Shervantaigh “Silent Killer” Koopman defeated Canada’s Brandon “Bad Boy” Cook to be crowned champion.

Primrose’s Shervantaigh “Silent Killer” Koopman added the WBA Inter-Continental Junior Middleweight title to his long list of achievements after beating Canada’s Brandon “Bad Boy” Cook.

After being sent to the canvas early in the opening round of his title fight against Cook, Koopman came back strongly to take home the title, at Emperors Palace on October 26.

After the opening stutter, Koopman went down twice, but the “Silent Killer” dug deep and had his opponent in trouble before the first bell rang in their feature fight on the Abanqobi Box and Dine Tournament bill at the Palace of Dreams’ Centre Court.

Both fighters came out guns blazing in the second round but Koopman soon dominated and had the Canadian bleeding from a cut above the latter’s nose.

Germiston’s Brandon Thysse carried on the Thysse family legacy by winning the vacant South African Junior Middleweight title.

In the third and fourth, the Primrose star continued to dominate but to Cook’s credit, he never gave up and made Koopman work for his victory until referee Jean-Robert Laine of Monte Carlo stopped the fight after 2:59s in the fifth round.

Apart from adding the WBA Inter-Continental Junior Middleweight belt to his long list of achievements he remains unbeaten and goes to 15-0 with 10 knockouts while Cook goes to 29-3.

In the main supporting bout, Germiston’s Brandon Thysse carried on the Thysse family legacy by winning the vacant South African Junior Middleweight title. Brandon stopped fellow contender Nkhensahosi Makondo from Limpopo in the eighth round to lift the belt.

Thysse’s victory was especially sweet as his late father, Andre, was a super middleweight South African champion in his boxing days.
