Three vehicles impounded in Katlehong for illegal roadside repairs

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department officers impounded three vehicles in Ngema Section and Roodekop after mechanics allegedly ignored repeated warnings to stop conducting illegal roadside repairs.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Katlehong Precinct has impounded three mechanically unroadworthy vehicles that were allegedly being illegally repaired on public roads in different parts of the township.

According to an EMPD statement, officers conducted enforcement operations after identifying vehicles being worked on in unsafe and unauthorised roadside conditions in Ngema Section and Roodekop.

Before the impoundments, officers issued verbal and written warnings to roadside mechanics, instructing them to stop the illegal activity. However, the warnings were allegedly ignored, prompting further law enforcement action.

The three vehicles — two sedans and one light delivery vehicle — were removed from the scene and taken to the EMPD vehicle pound in Alberton.

The EMPD reiterated its stance against illegal roadside repairs, citing the safety risks posed to motorists, pedestrians and mechanics working in public spaces.
