The City of Ekurhuleni has reassured residents that comprehensive measures are in place to maintain safety and service delivery ahead of a planned protest march scheduled for tomorrow.

In a statement released on Monday, Executive Mayor Alderman Nkosindiphile Xhakaza acknowledged the march and emphasised the city’s respect for the constitutional right to protest. However, he urged all participants to exercise this right responsibly and in accordance with the law.

“The right to protest is an important part of our democracy,” said Xhakaza.

“However, it comes with the responsibility to ensure that all actions remain peaceful and lawful.”

The city has called on all individuals and organisations taking part in the march to avoid any violence, intimidation, property damage, or disruption of essential services. Authorities have stressed that any unlawful behaviour will not be tolerated.

To ensure the march runs smoothly, the municipality is working closely with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders.

Contingency plans have been activated to safeguard residents, protect public infrastructure, and maintain stability across Ekurhuleni.

Residents have also been assured that essential services will continue uninterrupted during the protest. The city confirmed that operational plans are in place to ensure communities continue to receive necessary support.

Xhakaza appealed to the public to cooperate with officials and prioritise the safety and well-being of all communities.

“Differences and concerns must be addressed through constructive engagement and lawful processes,” he said.

The city reiterated its commitment to engaging with residents, addressing service delivery challenges, and building a better Ekurhuleni for all.

Residents are encouraged to remain informed and to report any incidents that may threaten public safety during the planned march.
