More than 1 000 comfort kits packed for Germiston children
It is a global call to action, encouraging people to dedicate 67 minutes of their time to community service in recognition of Mandela's 67 years of public service.
In honour of Mandela Day , Sasol leadership and volunteers in Germiston came together to pack more than 1 000 comfort packs for children receiving care in paediatric wards in public hospitals.
Across Sasol’s operations in Germiston, Ekandustria, Mbombela, Sandton (Sasol Place), Sasolburg and Durban, as well as at participating retail sites, employees packed more than 10 000 comfort packs for children in need.
Commemorated annually on July 18, Mandela Day marks the birthday of former South African President Nelson Mandela.

Demonstrating Sasol’s continued commitment to empowering communities through volunteerism, employees across the company’s operations rallied behind the 2026 Mandela Day theme, ‘67 Minutes.
One Purpose. Limitless Impact.’ Staff members spent 67 minutes packing care packages as a sign of compassion by preparing comfort packs for children battling critical illnesses.

The care packs contained toiletries, soft toys, colouring books, socks, blankets, snacks and lozenges.
In Germiston, the comfort packs will be distributed to children in oncology units at Bertha Gxowa Hospital and South Rand Hospital, as well as to Alberton Child Welfare. Each organisation will receive 100 comfort packs.
Thabile Makgala, executive vice president of people, risk, SHE and corporate affairs, said Mandela Day should be an everyday act.
“Mandela Day is never only about one day on the calendar. It reminds us of the responsibility we carry every day, to see the humanity in others and to build stronger, more caring communities,” said Makgala.
This year’s Mandela Day also coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.
The 2026 campaign focuses on supporting children in long-term hospital care, particularly those undergoing cancer treatment.

In keeping with the spirit of service beyond Mandela Day, Sasol volunteers will continue dedicating their time and skills throughout Mandela Month by supporting a range of community-based organisations, including public schools, healthcare facilities and non-profit organisations.
