Wheel Well donates life-saving Halo Beanies to Primrose learners
The Halo Beanies are no ordinary winter accessories. Each hand-knitted beanie is made with specialised reflective yarn.
Wheel Well, a child road safety NGO, visited Daeraad Pre-Primary School to gift young learners with their life-saving Halo Beanies.
The visit, supported by Better Primrose, formed part of an ongoing child safety campaign aimed at protecting and helping children to be visible.
The Halo Beanies are no ordinary winter accessories. Each hand-knitted beanie is made with specialised reflective yarn, designed to make children visible to motorists, especially during early mornings and late afternoons when visibility is poor.

Founder of Wheel Well, Peggie Mars, said child safety is important.
“In South Africa, pedestrian crashes remain the leading cause of injury-related deaths for children under 14. In 2024 alone, 734 young lives were lost. These beanies make a difference; 360-degree visibility can reduce the risk of pedestrian accidents by up to 85%,” said Mars.
For the little ones at Daeraad, the beanies were more than just protective gear; they were “magic beanies,” sparking excitement and joy as they tried them on.
This impactful initiative is made possible through strong partnerships. Wheel Well is supported by Supa Quick, while the beanies are knitted by dedicated knitting and crochet groups across South Africa.
Mars said it’s important to spread awareness and help educate communities about child road safety.
