Parents handover son to Zonkizizwe SAPS for allegedly killing girlfriend
The family had earlier reported her as missing at the police station.
Police have arrested a man for the alleged murder of his 27-year-old girlfriend after his parents handed him over to Zonkizizwe SAPS on December 8.
The arrest follows the discovery of the girlfriend’s badly burned body in an open field at Zone 3 Zonkizizwe, on December 6.
According to the Zonkizizwe SAPS media liaison officer Warrant Officer Rufus Tema, the family reported her missing at the police station on December 4.
“The investigation of the missing person enquiry took off immediately, leading to the discovery of the body at the open field,” said Tema.
Station commander Lieutenant Colonel Risenga Albert Chauke commended the family for their efforts and cooperation in handing over their own child.
“This is a perfect footprint that all of us must follow when our own is suspected of committing a crime. We need to work together to successfully fight crime against women, especially during and beyond this period of activism against women and children abuse.”
The suspect is expected to appear in Palm Ridge Court on December 9.
