Police arrest suspects linked to violent crimes after high-speed chase in Gauteng

The Gauteng Department of Community Safety confirmed that a high-speed chase from Bedfordview to Alexandra led to the arrest of two suspects linked to violent crimes, with follow-up investigations in Midrand uncovering stolen vehicles and a firearm.

The Gauteng Department of Community Safety has confirmed the arrest of two suspects following a dramatic high-speed chase last week that began in Bedfordview and ended in Alexandra.

According to the department, intelligence indicated that the suspects, wanted for murder and house robberies, were travelling in a VW Polo in Bedfordview.

The vehicle was spotted on the N3 highway heading towards Alexandra.

When officers attempted to stop the car, the suspects fled, sparking a high-speed chase. The pursuit ended when the Polo collided with several vehicles. Both suspects sustained serious injuries and were apprehended by police.

Further investigations led officers to a premises in Midrand, where they recovered two vehicles linked to serious crimes:

• A Ford Fiesta, connected to a Sandton case of murder and armed robbery

• A Renault Sandero, linked to a Germiston robbery case.

Police also recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition linked to a Bedfordview house robbery.

The department confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the suspects’ possible involvement in other violent crimes, including hijackings and armed house robberies across Gauteng.
