Two arrested by EMPD drug unit in major cannabis seizure

The EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit arrested two suspects after discovering cannabis and cannabis-infused products with an estimated street value of R101,000.

The EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) officers arrested two male suspects in Katlehong.

Following up on information received about individuals dealing illegal substances in the community, officers proceeded to a residence in Monaheng section, on Mabona Street, where, upon arrival, a forty-one-year-old man was found in the vicinity.

“A search was conducted, which resulted in three large glass containers of cannabis, 17 ziplock bags of cannabis, 18 cannabis-infused edible lolly pops, with an estimated street value of R100 000 being confiscated,” said EMPD media liaison officer Katlego Mphahlele.

A suspect was arrested after being found in possession of drugs.

“The arrest was on November 5. Later in the day, officers proceeded to the second residence in Motloung section, where a 33-year-old male suspect was found in possession of 50 medium ziplock bags of dagga, with an estimated street value of R1 000,” said Mphahlele.

“Both suspects were arrested and detained at Katlehong Police Station, facing charges of dealing with illicit substances and infused products,” said Mphahlele.

They are expected to appear before the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
