Suspect arrested in Primrose for possession of diamonds

Integrated Operation Shanela 2 saw Ekurhuleni SAPS arrest 274 suspects, close 11 illegal liquor outlets, and recover drugs, firearms, and diamonds, strengthening community safety across the district.

A total of 274 suspects were arrested for various crimes during Integrated Operation Shanela 2, conducted recently across Ekurhuleni policing precincts.

In Reiger Park, members of Social Crime Prevention and Communication visited the Ramaphosa informal settlement, where they engaged community members on domestic violence, substance abuse, contact crimes, and property crimes.

The visit formed part of SAPS’ ongoing efforts to educate communities and promote crime prevention through awareness.

The integrated operation resulted in the closure of 11 illegal liquor outlets and the recovery of an unlicensed firearm in the Nigel area.

As part of the operation, detectives conducted suspect-tracing operations during which 177 suspects were arrested. These arrests included suspects linked to contact crimes, property-related crimes, other serious offences, and gender-based violence cases.

In another incident in Ekurhuleni, a suspect was arrested in Primrose for possession of crystal methamphetamine and diamonds.

SAPS Primrose members, together with other law enforcement agencies, acted on information suggesting that the suspect was allegedly manufacturing narcotics at his residence.

A search was conducted, leading to the discovery of one gram of crystal meth, eighteen bags containing crystal meth, and four diamonds, found both inside the premises and in the suspect’s motor vehicle.

Ekurhuleni district commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, praised all law-enforcement agencies involved for their commitment and teamwork, highlighting that integrated operations such as Shanela 2 continue to make a meaningful impact in the fight against crime and in ensuring the safety of communities across the district.
