Four suspects arrested with unlicensed firearms in Germiston

"Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered ammunition, a Glock 17 firearm and a CZ firearm, both with obliterated serial numbers," said EMPD media liaison officer Katlego Mphahlele.

The EMPD Community Liaison Unit (CLU) members apprehended four male suspects for possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Germiston.

Following information from a source regarding four armed male suspects allegedly travelling in a silver Mercedes-Benz and believed to be on their way to commit a business robbery in the Primrose area, a lookout was immediately initiated.

The suspected vehicle with four occupants was spotted on Shamrock Street.

EMPD media liaison officer Katlego Mphahlele said that upon noticing the police presence, the suspects attempted to flee the scene.

“However, members swiftly and strategically intercepted the vehicle at the corner of Shamrock Street and Churchill Avenue. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered ammunition, a Glock 17 firearm and a CZ firearm, both with obliterated serial numbers,” said Mphahlele.

“None of the suspects were able to provide a valid explanation for the possession of the unlicensed firearms.

“The suspects were immediately arrested and detained at Germiston Police Station, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” said Mphahlele.

They are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
