Three suspects arrested in Primrose with unlicensed firearms and drugs

EMPD officers apprehended three suspects following a robbery report, recovering firearms, ammunition and illegal substances during a stop-and-search operation.

The EMPD Specialised Services Units officers arrested three male suspects for possession of two unlicensed firearms, ammunition and illegal substances.

The suspects were arrested in the Primrose area on March 12.

During a night-shift stop-and-search operation, conducted in the Primrose CBD, officers were approached by two female victims, who alleged that they had just been robbed by three African male suspects.

EMPD media liaison officer Katlego Mphahlele said the victims further provided a description of the suspects and indicated that they had fled on foot.

“Acting swiftly on the information received, officers proceeded in the direction given by the victims, and not long after, the three suspects were spotted walking along Shamrock Road.

“Upon noticing approaching officers, one of the suspects attempted to flee, but members gave chase and successfully apprehended him,” said Mphahlele.

“A search was conducted on the suspects, and officers discovered two unlicensed firearms with filed-off serial numbers, ammunition, cash, Mandrax tablets, crystal meth and dagga in their possession.

“The trio were arrested and detained at the Primrose Police Station,” said Mphahlele.

They are facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as possession of illegal substances.

They are expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
