Two caught driving under the influence by EMPD

Routine enforcement uncovers drunk driving violations.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) arrested two taxi drivers recently for driving under the influence of alcohol in Edenvale.

According to the EMPD, officers from the Edenvale precinct were conducting routine law enforcement duties when they observed two minibus taxis failing to stop at a stop sign.

The officers pulled both vehicles over and informed the drivers of the reason for the stop.

During the interaction, officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on both drivers’ breath.

The suspects, aged 28 and 34, were taken to a registered nurse for blood samples to be drawn before being detained at Edenvale Police Station.

They are expected to appear in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court on charges of driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance.
