Two rifles belonging to the SAPS were recovered in KwaDukathole informal settlement KwaDukathole informal settlement in Germiston on August 9 following the killing of two police officers and two women in Reiger Park on August 7.

According to a joint media statement issued by the SAPS and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), a person of interest was also taken in for questioning following a multi-disciplinary tracing operation.

The operation involved the DPCI’s Serious Organised Crime Investigation, PRASA, Gauteng Crime Intelligence Tactical and Special Operations, the Provincial Tracking Team, Tactical Response Team and Anti-Gang Unit.

The teams were tracing suspects allegedly involved in the murder of two Gauteng SAPS Anti-Gang Unit members, Constables Tlomatsana and Sibeko, as well as two civilian women.

The two women were identified by the Boksburg Advertiser, sister publication of Germiston City News, as 36-year-old Roleen Lessing and 27-year-old Jaydin Magerman.

The women were reportedly on their way to a shop when they were shot through the front windscreen of their red Volkswagen Polo.

The person taken in for questioning is reportedly a known gangster who was out on bail and had several outstanding cases before court, according to the SAPS and DPCI statement.

These include two murder, two attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm cases.

Acting National Head of SAPS Lieutenant General Sphesihle Nkosi conveyed his condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the slain police officers.
