EMPD arrests nine suspects in multi-area drug crackdown
EMPD officers confiscated over R29 000 worth of illicit drugs, arresting nine suspects during targeted multi-area raids across Katlehong, Germiston and other areas.
In an ongoing push to purge illicit drugs from local communities, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) seized narcotics worth thousands of rands and arrested nine suspects.
The EMPD made the arrests during an intensive multi-area operation.
The crackdown, carried out between August 31 and September 5, was spearheaded by joint teams from the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit and the Community Liaison Unit.

Officers focused operations on high-density hotspots, targeting key locations across Katlehong, Germiston, Vosloorus and Thembisa.
The coordinated raids resulted in the arrest of nine male suspects aged 20 to 57.
During searches, officers confiscated an assortment of illicit substances, including crystal meth, heroin, mandrax, rock, and khat.
“All nine suspects face charges of possession of and dealing in illegal substances. They are currently detained at various police stations across the municipality and are scheduled to appear in local magistrate’s courts,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa.

Thepa emphasised that the operation forms part of the city’s broader, uninterrupted strategy to dismantle local drug syndicates, remove dangerous substances from the streets, and restore safety to residential neighbourhoods.
Local law enforcement urges residents to continue reporting suspected drug activity to their nearest police station or through municipal hotline channels.
