The South African Gwijo Awards (SAGA) have officially launched their latest edition, marking the announcement of this year’s nominees and the start of the nationwide public voting phase.

Organised by the Gwijo Arts Council (GAC), and operating from Katlehong, the annual event aims to honour and elevate the artists, groups, and cultural contributors who are expanding the reach of Gwijo music across the country.

Following the momentum of the previous ceremony, organisers are gearing up for an even larger celebration of South African heritage, youth talent, and community spirit.

The opening of the voting stage allows fans and supporters from all corners of South Africa to actively participate in selecting the top talent within the Gwijo community.

“The awards represent a vital story about South African culture, music, and the continuous growth of Gwijo,” said Sipho Mthembu, co-founder and lead organiser of SAGA.

Mthembu added that organisers are excited to build on the previous year’s success and give greater recognition to the extraordinary individuals and groups making an impact in this space.

The main SAGA ceremony is scheduled to take place later this year. Additional details regarding the event venue, official programme, and ticket sales will be released by the Gwijo Arts Council in the coming weeks.

Members of the public can vote in the following categories: Best Gwijo Female Vocalist, Best Gwijo Male Vocalist, Best Gwijo Group, Best Gwijo Duo, Best Gwijo Remix, Best Young Gwijo Vocalist, and Song of the Year.
