Ekurhuleni continues waste collection and landfill operations across metro
The City of Ekurhuleni says refuse removal, street cleaning and landfill services are progressing in multiple regions under its #FixingTheFrontline programme.
Waste collection and cleaning services are continuing across multiple regions of the metro as part of the City of Ekurhuleni’s ongoing #FixingTheFrontline programme.
Southern region
In the southern region, waste collection is underway in Bedford Park and other Monday-designated areas in Bedfordview.
In Germiston, teams are servicing Elsburg, President and Lambert streets, the CBD and surrounding collection zones.

Litter picking and central point collection are also taking place in Marathon, Mabondeni and along Main Reef Road.
Illegal dumping removal is in progress in Katlehong, including Twala, Khotso and Railway streets, as well as Delville.
In Alberton, the Heidelberg transfer station is fully operational for residents. Cleaning operations are being conducted in Thokoza Street and at Letsoho Centre, including areas near the fire and police stations.
In Boksburg, teams have begun work in Boksburg North, with street cleaning and waste collection in Vosloorus Ext 26 and other Monday-scheduled areas.
In the eastern region, waste collection and litter picking are continuing in Duduza, Springs CBD, Modder East and the Station taxi rank. Services are also underway in Daveyton and Etwatwa in areas scheduled for Monday collection.
Landfill operations
The Rietfontein landfill site is open and fully operational. Both weighbridge scales are functioning, with operations currently taking place in Cell 4.

The Platkop landfill is also operational. While all plant equipment is functional, the compactor experienced overheating, and mechanics are on site to carry out repairs. Waste is being compacted and covered in Cells 15 and 10.
Simmer and Jack landfill remains open and operational. However, the exit weighbridge scale is not fully functional following the replacement of a load cell. The city also noted ongoing illegal mining activity along the boundary fence on Main Reef Road.
The Rooikraal landfill is open, but its weighbridge scale remains non-operational. The site is currently accepting only municipal and contracted trucks and is operating between Stage 2B and Stage 3A.
The Weltervreden landfill remains temporarily closed. However, key plant equipment is operational, and teams are addressing the backlog by compacting and covering waste.
Northern region
In Kempton Park and parts of Thembisa, domestic waste collection is underway in Norkem Proper, Norkem Ext 1, 2 and 3, Phomolong, Esselen Park Ext 1 and Terenure.
In Edenvale, waste collection and street cleaning are taking place in Modderfontein 35IR, Van Riebeeck Avenue, Eastleigh, Hurlyvale and Meadowbrook.
The City has encouraged residents to continue cooperating with waste management teams as services continue across the metro.
