Demolition could be on the cards for an illegally occupied former municipal building in Germiston’s inner city as the City of Ekurhuleni intensifies by-law enforcement operations.
he City of Ekurhuleni has intensified by-law enforcement operations in Germiston’s inner city, where a hijacked former municipal building has been earmarked for possible demolition.
City officials, supported by a by-law enforcement team, inspected the property after it was found to be illegally occupied and linked to unauthorised utility connections.
Head of Service Delivery Co-ordination Lesego Sentsho joined the operation as teams disconnected illegally connected electricity and water meters at a non-compliant day-care centre operating on the premises.

According to the city, the operation forms part of a broader campaign to restore order in the Germiston CBD, curb the illegal occupation of municipal buildings and enforce compliance with safety regulations.
Officials warned that further enforcement action will be taken against properties found to be violating municipal by-laws, including possible demolition where necessary.
The city also urged property owners and occupants to comply with municipal regulations and engage the municipality through the proper channels to avoid enforcement action.
