Concerned resident hosts soup kitchen in Elsburg

Eslburg is in need of a soup kitchen.

Elsburg resident Charlotte Klopper and Lambton resident Tanya Bezuidenhout hosted a soup kitchen on 15 July.

They fed 500 people and wished they could do more. Klopper said there is a need for a feeding scheme in Elsburg.

“The number of people who came out on the day is clear that people in our community are in a dire situation.

“Times are tough, and many families are suffering. For some, this is the only meal they will have today,” said Klopper.

She said in these difficult times; the community needs to come together to share the little they have.

“Everyone, even businesses, is going through difficult times. But we are asking for donations for the soup kitchen. We appreciate any donation,” said Klopper.

Elsburg residents came out in numbers for soup on 15 July.

She said what she saw happening in her community had prompted the soup kitchen.

“I saw a need and wanted to help, and I was happy when Tanya assisted me. This project is about the community helping their own,” said Klopper.

She said they would like to host the soup kitchen regularly. To do this, they request donations to make that possible.

They need 3 x 15l pots, bread, soup mix, soya mince, macaroni, carrots, and potatoes for their next soup run.

“We would like to host it weekly. We cannot turn a blind eye to what is happening around us. A little kindness goes a long way, and many families in our community are looking for some kindness,” said Klopper.

She also thanked those who donated to the first soup kitchen.
