Hoërskool Elspark’s learner shines at Maths Olympiad

Mngomezulu brought pride to the mathematics department with a score of 80% for problem-solving and an overall 71%.

Hoërskool Elspark’s Grade Nine learner Ntombizethu Mngomezulu flew the school flag at the Math District Olympiad.

The Olympiad was attended by 21 460 Grade Nine learners.

“The competition was quite easy. Maths comes to me naturally,” said Mngomezulu.

“There are various methods that you can use in maths but sometimes the teacher explains only one. It is best if you try to learn the various methods and apply the ones you’re most comfortable with.

“Using different sources could help you find the formula that best explains it for you,” said Mngomezulu.

The youngster hopes to study cardiology or biomedical engineering but has not made her final decision yet.
