Wychwood’s artist life inspired by music
Through the different phases of dance he realised that he can make his own music for people to dance to.
The influence of music has always been the centre of his life, whether through performing or listening.
Christopher Mphahlele, also known as RokaM3192, from Wychwood, said music has always inspired him to look beyond his background.
“I grew up dancing to any elements as long as it was music. Our house was always buzzing with different genres of music.
“I loved it as it gave me more to live for and forget about my background. It developed my love for the creative arts,” said RokaM3192.

The producer from Limpopo arrived in Gauteng in 2001 to start his music journey.
He started his journey as a pantsula dancer. When he arrived in Joburg, he taught himself sbujwa and years later danced the skhothane dance.
He said through the different phases of dance he realised that he could make music for people to dance to.
Raised by his sister, he decided to finish school first and planned to pursue music after school.
“I did not want to disappoint my sister and I wanted to study what I love, so when I finished school, I decided to study music production with Boston,” said RokaM3192.
“People like my style of music.”

He said the music industry calls for dedication and hard work.
Because he wanted to promote music, he decided to become a DJ.
He said his music journey has been one of learning and he continues to refine his craft and adapt to a forever-changing music scene while staying true to himself.
