43-Year-old appears in court for Rondebult triple murders

The victims were found wrapped in blankets on the back of a bakkie by Elsburg police officers patrolling the area.

A man faced multiple charges of murder in Germiston Magistrates Court today after three of his relatives were found dead on the back of a bakkie.

The man was arrested by Elsburg and provincial SAPS on January 2 when the bakkie was found in Rondebult, Elsburg.

The 43-year-old suspect was arrested by Elsburg SAPS detectives with the assistance of Gauteng’s Serious and Violent Crime Investigations (SVCI) Murder and Robbery Team.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said SAPS are investigating a case of triple murder.

“All of the victims had sharp stab wounds,” said Nevhuhulwi.

Nevhuhulwi said the suspect was also charged with the possession of firearm and ammunition in addition to the murders.

The bodies of the victims included the suspect’s father, mother and his sister.

According to reports, the victims were found wrapped in blankets on the back of a bakkie by Elsburg police officers patrolling the area.

As it stands the motive for the killings and when the bodies were discovered are unknown.

Nevhuhulwi said the January 4 court appearance was the suspect’s first appearance in the Germiston Magistrates Court for the matter.

Nevhuhulwi said he appeared in court A where the charges of murder and possession of firearm and ammunition were brought against him.

The matter was postponed to January 11.
